The business was named after Martha Emswiler who lived to be 3 days shy of 104. She lived in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and used to cook for farmhands. Martha was famous for her creamed corn and apple pie. She passed on recipes to her family such as the cooked salad dressing to wilt dandelion greens. Martha was married to Cleaver "Bub" Emswiler for over 50 years. Her granddaughter, Martha is nicknamed "Muffy" just as her grandmother was and continues on the old traditions in the kitchen. We use all natural ingredients and no preservatives.
Martha's mother, Helen, gave her the chocolate fudge recipe, which is the base for most of the fudge made into the Black Walnut, Chocolate Peanut Butter and Coconut.
Martha's father's sister, Mildred, gave her the Peanut Butter fudge recipe. "Aunt Mildred" is known far and wide for her fudge and sugar cookies, although she has passed on . . . the legend lives on.
